Sep 30, 2016 My app receives GCM push notifications when it is in the background, tested on Android 4.1 and 5.1. It doesn't receive push notifications when its not running though. Although, I'm not sure that feature is supported yet. Sep 24, 2018 Message notifications will still appear and the total unread messages would be shown on the app icon. Explicitly quitting Messages.app (e.g. CMD + Q) will quit the app entirely- no new message notifications will show, app icon does not display unread messages. The app would update with new messages upon next launch. To adjust your Notifications setting: 1- Click at the top-right corner and select Settings. 2- Click Notifications on the left. You can adjust what types of Notifications to get on Facebook. Keep in mind that if the notification is from an app, you can block the app. Hope this helps, Denzel.
